A fascinating look at the life and career of a racing legend, told in his own words.

Richard Petty is synonymous with ground-breaking auto racing achievements. Now, one of the most famous and recognizable sports figures in the world is pioneering a first-ever NASCAR audio autobiography.

The unique four-hour, four-disk series titled “Richard Petty's Audio Scrapbook” is a must-have for every racing enthusiast who wants something to treasure and collect, as heard through the voice of one of sport's national treasures – Richard Petty.

"This audio book is easily one of the most enjoyable projects I have ever been a part of because it's so important to me," said Petty, who remains one of stock car racing's most popular and endearing figures. "NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing is a very popular sport, but every year that goes by we leave a little bit of our past behind. Richard Petty's Audio Scrapbook will help bring our colorful past back into public consciousness. This is not just about Richard Petty or Petty Enterprises. This is about the history of a great sport. It's my hope that it will be as educational as it is entertaining."

Richard Petty's Audio Scrapbook is a journey through seven decades of NASCAR history in which Petty describes priceless and never-before-heard stories about his early childhood, the days of constructing cars in the backyard of his Level Cross home to building the Petty racing empire, his biggest wins and most horrific wrecks, his immense popularity in which he was once asked to autograph a duck, and his sorrow over the loss of grandson Adam Petty.

Junior Johnson also expounds on how moon shining and racing mixed in the sport's infant stages; David Pearson and Bobby Allison describe their intense rivalries with Petty; and former Petty crew chief Dale Inman reminisces about the close relationship he and the seven-time NASCAR champion enjoyed during their glory days on race tracks across the country.

"It has been a long time since I thought about a lot of those memories, of those classic races with Pearson, Allison and Cale Yarborough," Petty said. "That is one of the great features of this audio book. We raced each other hard, sometimes very hard, but we had a great time promoting NASCAR and helping build it into the sport it is today. I think fans will sense that in this audio book."

Hall of Fame racing voice Barney Hall, the lead booth announcer for MRN's radio broadcasts, whose familiar sound and long-time relationship with Petty literally pulls listeners into the "fireside chat" of this historic and collectable audio book.

"When I think of the 'voice' of stock car racing I automatically think of Barney," Petty said. "He's a legend."

Richard Petty's Audio Scrapbook is co-produced by Detroit author Gordon Miller, who also published the critically acclaimed Ernie Harwell's Audio Scrapbook in 2006.
